SAKURA - OLYMPIA TEACHERS AND STAFF JOIN TRAINING SESSION ON INJURY PREVENTION AND SAFETY SKILLS

Date Submitted: 08/11/2025

On November 8, 2025, all teachers and staff of the Sakura - Olympia School System participated in a training session on injury prevention and safety skills for children and students. The session aimed to enhance awareness and practical response skills in emergency situations, ensuring the safety of students in all learning and daily activities.

Enhancing Readiness – Proactively Ensuring Student Safety

School safety has always been a top priority at Sakura - Olympia. Beyond building a healthy learning environment, the school regularly organizes training programs to equip teachers and staff with essential skills for preventing and responding effectively to possible accidents or injuries during the care and teaching of students.

On November 8, 2025, the Sakura - Olympia School System, in collaboration with the Vietnam Institute of Safety Science – Da Nang Branch, conducted a training session on injury prevention and safety skills for children and students in the 2025–2026 school year. The program was led by Mr. Nguyen Quang Hai – Branch Director, and Mr. Pham Van Tuan – Deputy Director of Training, who provided professional guidance throughout the session.

The training was conducted in a serious, practical, and highly applicable manner, helping teachers and staff understand potential risks in school settings and how to respond effectively when incidents occur.

Identifying Risks – Learning to Prevent

At the beginning of the session, Mr. Pham Van Tuan presented an overview of current child injury statistics in Vietnam, emphasizing that drowning remains the leading cause. He pointed out that accidents often result not only from children’s lack of safety awareness but also from adults’ failure to recognize potential risks and, most critically, from inadequate rescue techniques, causing victims to miss the “golden time” for survival.

From these real-life insights, the expert provided practical technical solutions tailored to the school environment and the developmental characteristics of students. The training covered several key topics:

- Drowning Prevention and Artificial Respiration Techniques: Guidance on correct first-aid procedures for drowning victims, checking breathing, performing chest compressions, and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

- Choking Response: Identifying choking symptoms in children and practicing the simple yet life-saving Heimlich maneuver.

- Electrical Safety: Handling incidents involving electric shocks, including safely removing victims from the power source, moving safely in electrified areas, and performing initial first aid and safety precautions when using electrical equipment.

- Drug and Substance Abuse Prevention: Raising teachers’ awareness of emerging risks related to drugs and addictive substances, helping them recognize early signs and protect students through timely intervention and education.

Teachers and staff were aware of the risks associated with accidents and injuries that can easily occur in the school environment, as well as the skills needed to handle such situations.

Practice to Master – Every Minute Counts

The most crucial part of the training focused on first-aid practice, which received great attention from all participants. Mr. Pham Van Tuan emphasized the importance of the “golden three minutes”—a critical window that determines a victim’s chance of survival if first aid is performed correctly.

Under the direct guidance of experts, teachers had the opportunity to observe and practice chest compressions, artificial respiration, and standardized first-aid procedures. Every movement and technique was carefully reviewed and corrected to ensure precision, effectiveness, and safety in real-life situations.

For a Safe and Caring School Environment

The training not only provided practical knowledge and emergency response skills but also strengthened the spirit of “proactiveness – responsibility – compassion” among the Sakura - Olympia team. Every teacher and staff member is not only an educator but also a guardian of student safety and a trusted companion in every situation.

At Sakura - Olympia, comprehensive education is defined as more than academic excellence; it includes life skills and safety awareness—the foundation for each student’s confident and sustainable growth.

Through this training, the school once again reaffirmed its commitment to building a safe, modern, and humane educational environment, where every student is cared for, protected, and nurtured with love by the Sakura - Olympia educational community.
